A mother of invention (the Rhoost story)

When Rhoost co-founder Vianka’s daughter, Soledad, turned 6 months, her pediatrician uttered the words Vianka had been dreading: “It’s time to start child-proofing your home V – this little girl with the big personality will be running circles around you in no time!”

Vianka immediately added “Buy baby-proofing products” to the top of her to-do list and hit the mall. But after scouring every store, she only found herself disappointed by the poor functionality and invasive installation of the baby-proofing products available, and frustrated that none matched the style of the home in which she took so much pride. Unwilling to settle for existing products, damage her furniture or compromise Soledad’s safety – and confident that a better solution was possible – the idea for Rhoost was born.

Vianka Perez Belyea

Vianka with her familyVianka brings a wealth of business operations management to the Rhoost team through her experience running two clinical departments at large academic medical institutions in Boston. In addition, she is a member of an investment group with a portfolio that includes stocks, real estate, and ownership in small businesses.

However, anyone who knows V knows that she doesn’t define herself by her ‘day job’ and she simply cannot sit still. As a wife, mother, sister and friend Vianka applies her logical thinking and practical skills to life’s challenges – big and small. Whether it’s advising her husband Aaron on his own successful graphic design business, counseling her sisters on their finances and future, or encouraging her friends to achieve their personal best – she is always looking to improve herself and the lives of those she loves.

Having her now 2-year old daughter, Soledad, has taken V’s passion for life to an entirely new level. She is constantly looking for the next thing to do and no challenge excites V more than launching a successful business.

Tavinder Phull

Tavinder and SoledadTavinder earned an MBA from Babson College and got the ‘entrepreneurial bug’ while earning her degree. Through her work doing health care policy research, she has combined her passion for ‘crunching numbers’ with her passion for finding new and better ways to assess the impact health interventions on patients. As the director of her group, she has led various efforts to address many of the health care challenges we are facing today.

Like V, T also does not define herself by her day job, but rather sees a person’s skills as a toolbox for all aspects of life. T inherited her ‘toolbox’ figuratively and literally from her parents. Her father was an avid do-it-yourselfer and T was never far from his side in any of his projects…the successes (of which there were many) and the failures (hey – who was counting?).

How all this relates to child-proofing is not clear until you meet her. Approaching T with an unsolved problem is a lot like approaching a bee with honey and the only thing T loves more that an unsolved problem is her god-daughter.
