Talking to those in the ‘know’
In the past week we have been lucky enough to have really insightful conversations with some children retailers in Boston about our Rhoost Edge Table corner protector and the Sling cabinet closure. We may even have talked about our top secret, soon to be unveiled 3rd product – oooooo…ahhhhhhh!
So big thanks to Sheri and Eli Gurock from Magic Beans and the many others who we look forward to talking to in the near future.
Whether the topic is what parents are looking for, pricing, packaging, or product appeal – the insight of the folks ‘on the front lines’ cannot be under-estimated! We also try to keep an eye on companies we really like and admire – Oxo (launching a new Oxo Tot line) , Green Toys, Clek, and Boon.
We learned early on that Rhoost’s success depends on looking and listening. Looking around us at what works and what does not work. Listening – to parents, to retailers, to industry experts, AND anyone willing to talk to us!

The “dreaded M word”: Manufacturing Rhoost’s child proofing products
So is anyone else as addicted to Shark Tank as we are? Have you noticed the fear in entrepreneur’s faces when one of the sharks inevitably asks “have you figured out your manufacturing process”? You can almost feel the sweat beading on brows and staining well-ironed shirts…
Well, while there are plenty of other things that has Rhoost sweating, manufacturing our first two child-proofing products hasn’t been one of them thanks to Matt Kressy and his company Designturn. Matt’s years of experience and great relationships with Chinese manufacturers takes the “dreaded” out of the “M word”. Combine this with his depth as a human being and sense of humor and it’s clear why he is one of our favorite people.
Matt and his network know exactly where to get quality products made by experienced factories. He speaks their language – manufacturing (not mandarin as far as we know), and as a result Rhoost table protectors and Rhoost cabinet locks will be in stores by February 2010!

Women Entrepreneurs in Boston finding resources…and each other
Kudos to Scott Kirsner for the great coverage on female entrepreneurs this week!
As female entrepreneurs starting a child-proofing product company in Boston, we are thrilled to be part of a great and growing group. As Scott mentions formal and informal events are happening all the time. In fact, we bet there’s one happening right now…
We are excited about these upcoming events for great causes! Hope to see you there!
